A late start from Hillmorton after taking breakfast at the Canal Chef on Badsey's wharf. Another brief stop at Hillmorton Canal Shop to exchange an unused fuel filler and purchase some rope and other bits. Then south down the Oxford canal to Braunston junction there the Oxford canal and Grand Union join. Turning west on to the widened section of the Oxford Canal for a mooring near Wolfhamcote in isolated open fields.

The weather turned out rather better than forecast so we set out at 11:00 through the stop lock and on to the Oxford Canal which will take us all the way to the new mooring at Fenny Marina. A brief stop in Rugby for essential shopping and then on to Hillmorton for a mooring near the middle lock.

After loosing a member of crew this morning after their 2 week sojourn we set off from Anchor bridge along the 8 mile lock free pound to Hawkesbury Junction and the start of the Oxford canal. The presence of the Greyhound pub at this location has of course nothing to do with the choice of mooring.

A morning doing some minor maintenance to replace the spare drive belt for the hybrid (after I snapped one on the Lancaster canal) and tighten up the stern tube packing. Departing Hopwas around lunch time we made good progress to Peel Wharf on the outskirts of Tamworth for a service and water stop. we then carried on to Frazley Junction to join the Coventry canal proper and to our first locks for a while at Glascote, another stop above the locks to visit the new Co-op and get the makings of a roast dinner for tonight. Out of Tamworth through Alvecote and Polesworth for an intended mooring, but each time we turned a corner the selected moorings were already taken, eventually we found a suitable mooring just after Grendon Bridge. Surprisingly busy for October.
