Light at the end of the tunnel
Over the last few weekends we have been working on the various jobs needed before departure, and we have made some good progress.
The toilet/shower room is almost complete, and progress on some of the other items is picking up.
- Removed the all rotting side hatch panels in preparation for new replacements. Cleaned out the rust and pained the inside of the side hatch steel doors. The decorated panels from the old doors have been salvaged and will be turned in to decorative wall plaques.
- fitted the remaining solar panels and solar controller. Unfortunately I could not get this to work properly, and suspect this is down to an incorrectly made cable termination on one of my cables.
More progress
Another weekend on the boat saw most of the toilet finished off and the Solar panels glued to the roof. Next weekend, final sealing of the toilet floor and walls put the radiator back in and connect up the solar panels.
Toilet refit taking shape
At last the project to refit the toilet with a Composting Loo has gone past the tearing down stage and got to the rebuilding stage where progress becomes apparent.
Over the weekend, the hole in the floor for the old dump thru loo was patched and the new vinyl floor laid. The same white vinyl has been taken up the walls to create a bright clean, easy clean look.
Toilet refit well underway
The toilet refit is well under way. The old cork floor is out along with the old Sink and dump through toilet. The toilet tank has been filled with concrete using 100Kg of Postfix to add some ballast and to bind any remaining sludge in the tank.
The composting toilet is temporarily installed and usableso we have the basic facilities on the boat. The gallon bottle at the back on the toilet is the temporary urine tank, which holds about a days use.
Since this pic was taken the wallpaper has been stripped, the old pipe fittings and remains of the cork floor removed. The radiator has been removed in preperation for boxing in the pipework.
Next step to repair the floor where the hole to the tank is. Then we can start rebuilding, with a new vinyl floor, and wall lining, a new sink unit.
Winter Mooring booked and Composting toilet orderd
After a bit of a false start with emails going missing I have today placed a deposit on this winters mooring at Fenny Compton. I expect we will stay at Fenny for 2-3 years or longer depending on how we like the place and how quickly we run out of new places to cruise.
Fenny is well placed for the Oxford Canal, the GU north to Birmingham and South to London plus all the branches so should be a good base to explore from.
Today I have placed the order for the Separett Villa Compostimg Loo, to be collected on 21st Feb along with a custom urine tank designed to fit under the bottom shelf of the basin vanity unit, so easy to get at and hidden away. Putting it in the Vanity unit means the tank will be a bit smaller than normal but should still be good for 60 uses between emptying.
